The author's self portrait circa 2012

The Author (a.k.a. Neil Kapit, 1985-Present) is the creator, writer, and illustrator of Ruby's World and Ruby Nation, as well as the significantly fuzzier webcomic Poet Kitties. He is also the author of this page, exercising in one of the rawest exercises in creative egotism.

Born in San Francisco and raised in Santa Barbara, The Author grew up obsessed with comic books, video games, animation, and other visual media. He went to undergraduate at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA, followed by getting a master's in English at the adjacent Claremont Graduate University, and a special education teaching credential. He has written freelance for several websites, as well as working as relief staff in a residential facility for teenagers, and teaching independent living skills to adults with developmental disabilities. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and cat.

The Author was also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in late 2005, and inserts disability themes into most of his work. In addition to several characters who are explicitly suspected or confirmed as autistic, there are several others who have other mental or physical disabilities, or at least have powers with drawbacks that make interaction with normal society more difficult.
